Today we had our latest check-up. It was the typical weight, blood pressure, measuring my tummy, and listening to the heartbeat. However, it was also time to check for gestational diabetes, so I had to force down the sickeningly sweet glucola drink, then had to get blood drawn. I don't like needles, so I made sure Stephen could be with me for this appointment for support. My weight is good, I have gained 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. My blood pressure was normal. The baby's heartbeat was strong and loud. It's always comforting and reassuring to hear that heartbeat! The doctor said that my tummy is measuring a little bit bigger than how far along I am, but she said that it's possible that the baby was just high. She said there is no need to worry yet about having a giant baby, size can still fluctuate for the next 12 weeks. I was more than 9 lbs. when I was born, but maybe I could have a little tiny 7 lbs. baby, right?!
On a side note, this was the last appointment I had with my doctor. She is leaving the practice, but she referred me to her doctor, so I know we are in good hands. I guess it's a good opportunity to start meeting some of the other doctors in the practice, as we don't know who will actually deliver the baby. There are about 5 doctors that might be delivering us, so we are going to try to meet all of them before the due date.
