Leah's appointment with the geneticist
Today Leah had an appointment with a pediatric geneticist. At the appointment, they asked questions about my pregnancy, Leah's health and development so far, and asked for a family history for both sides of the family. After looking at all of this information, and doing a physical examination, the doctor said that he did not know of any genetic disorders or syndromes that this could be. He said Leah had to get blood drawn (poor baby) and that they are sending her blood to Baylor University to do an SNP array on it. This will look at Leah's DNA to see if there are any variations or alterations in her genes. Apparently, it is on the cutting edge of medical technology. He said that he thinks it will probably come out normal, but we will have to wait and see. Again, more waiting. He said that this may just be a "freak accident". As development occurs, and we grow from dots to the complex beings we are, it's possible that something just didn't form correctly. The longer we wait, and the less answers we get, the more I tend to think this is the situation. We go back to see Dr. Driscoll in a couple of months when the results from this blood work are back. Leah was very good for as long as she could be. She didn't get to take her nap this morning, and the people were very mean to her. They drew blood from both arms! She let them know that she did NOT appreciate that. Here she is, still not over the torture.

ReplyDeleteStephen and Rachael, Sorry, we missed your SKYPE call last night. We have been super busy and sometimes when Andrew is at the computer he doesn't answer SKYPE. Bad boy!! Anyway, thanks for the update. I am glad the Drs. are pretty sure nothing is genetic. We will keep praying for you and for precious Leah!
