Latest trip to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
We had what we thought was going to be Leah's last appointment at Bascom Palmer today. We were told it was just going to be for Dr. Murray to look one more time at Leah's eyes to make sure the damage to her eyes was stable. However, when we got there he wanted to know the progress on finding the cause. He is concerned with finding the cause, if possible, as soon as possible, so that we can make sure that no other systems are compromised - especially after hearing that Leah was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. He told us that he wanted to have a pediatric ophthalmologist from Bascom Palmer look at her eyes to see how we can maximize the vision she has and he wanted to see her again to do another exam under anesthesia. So, we will be going back at least twice more - once in March to see the pediatric ophthalmologist, and again in June for the exam under anesthesia. We left the appointment feeling good, in spite of hearing of two more appointments. We all said that with each appointment we like Dr. Murray more and more. I think it is because he seems urgent to find the cause. After all, he is the one who requested us to get the blood work done to determine if there was an infection, and referred us to the geneticist for testing, even though he is not technically her primary eye doctor. If doctors at one of the leading eye institutes want to help Leah, we'll take it!

We're so glad you have Dr. Murray. We know she is getting the best and that she has the best Mommy and Daddy possible. Give our Leah a hug and kiss from us.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you all in Miami!
Love,
Great Grandma and Great Grandpa B.
