Follow-up Visit at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute

We have just had our follow-up visit at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, for Leah's exam under anesthesia from five weeks ago. This appointment was to check her eyes again and make sure that the issues with Leah's eyes are not developing. The good news is that her eyes are stable. Anatomically, her eyes are the same as they were at her last appointment. Now, we just wait to see what vision develops as she goes through normal development. So, for us the next step is an appointment in two months with the ophthalmologist in Gainesville to look at how Leah's vision is developing, and then back again to Miami in December for one more look to make sure the damage is still not progressing. After that, assuming her eyes are still stable, we may not need to see this doctor anymore. Again, he talked about treatment options for Leah being possibly glasses and patch therapy. Once again, Leah was a trooper through this appointment. They dilated her pupils, put numbing drops in, used the speculum and messed with her eyes again. I left the room and let Stephen hold her while they picked on her and made her cry. Dr. Murray said that for the next appointment they might need to sedate her to do the exam as she might be too strong to handle without sedation. We hope not, but we will have to wait and see.

At Bascom Palmer, a place we have become all too familiar with.

She is getting the best care possible.

Waiting for the most horrible experience to begin.

Too much to handle.
